Moldovan president proposes amendment of legislation, to implement mechanism of extended confiscation of wealth gained through corruptiuon acts

Chisinau, 1 February /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu proposes the amendment of the legislation, in order to enable the implementation of the mechanism of extended confiscation of the wealth gained through corruption acts. A legislative initiative, the goal of which is to improve the legal framework in the field, was submitted to parliament today, the presidential press service has reported.    

According to the head of state, the present law contains an obstacle which makes more difficult the procedure of confiscation of the assets of those who enriched themselves illegally and allows them preserve the wealth. Thus, they remain in possession of their wealth through its transfer to third people. The draft law suggested to the parliament is meant to eliminate the concerned gap. 

„Our efforts of improving the legislative norms for combating corruption will continue. We will also continue efforts of reforming the justice, so that the legal norms are enforced for everybody, with no exception,’’ Maia Sandu said.
