Chisinau, 2 February /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu today had a meeting with Prime Minister of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Mark Rutte, on an official visit to Moldova, at an invitation by President Maia Sandu, the parliament communication and public relations department has reported.

The delegation is also made up of Foreign Affairs Minister Wopke Hoekstra, Bucharest-based Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Moldova Roelof van Ees, as well as other Dutch officials.

Igor Grosu welcomed the delegation of the Netherlands in the Moldovan parliament, stressing the significance of this visit, which is the first one by a prime minister of this country to Moldova.

”Your country is an important partner in the promotion and implementation of Moldova’s European integration goals. We are grateful for all assistance provided to Moldova by the Kingdom of the Netherlands,’’ Igor Grosu said.

The sides exchanged opinions on the situation in Moldova in various sectors.

The lawmakers informed the high Dutch official about the developments in combating corruption and reforming the justice, solving the pandemic and energy crises, fight against misinformation and propaganda. The sides also tackled the risks to security nationally and regionally.

„The zero priority remains the justice reform and combating corruption and we will not stop at the half road. The reform must be carried through, as this is the wish of Moldova’s citizens and they gave us their mandate of confidence for this. In the first six months, we voted more laws, which will ensure the independence of the judicial system; at the same time, we managed to vote, in the first reading, the mechanism of verifying the integrity of all candidates for the offices of member of the Superior Council of the Magistracy (CSM) and Superior Council of Prosecutors (CSP) (pre-vetting),’’ the parliament speaker said.

The participants in the meeting expressed unanimous interest in the boosting of the dialogue between Moldova and the Netherlands, especially on the inter-parliamentary dimension.
