Criminal Code, Criminal Procedure Code to be amended in Moldova

Chisinau, 23 February /MOLDPRES/ - The Justice Ministry today organized the first working meeting on the amendment and completion of the Criminal Code and Criminal Procedure Code. Attending the event were representatives of the parliament, Prosecutor General’s Office (PG), National Anticorruption Centre  (CNA), State Fiscal Service, judges and lawyers.     

The participants in the discussions presented a working plan with synthesizing subjects from the criminal legislation and the criminal procedure one, which will be amended.  

The secretary of state, Veronica Mihailov-Moraru, informed that decision-makers already worked on a draft on amendment of the Criminal Procedure Code, focused on aspects concerning the access to materials at the stage of criminal prosecution; revising the competence of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office at the investigation of high-level corruption cases; mechanism of contesting the actions or inactions of the prosecutor at the phase of criminal prosecution; optimization and simplification of the procedure of considering criminal files at the judicial phase.

Mihailov-Moraru noted that decision-makers were also to elaborate a draft on amendment of the Criminal Code on the aspect of revising certain components of offences, as well as of sanctions on certain categories of criminal deeds, so that the work on these two documents is parallel.
