Moldovan carriers may transit Latvia without permits

Chisinau, 28 Feb. / MOLDPRES /- The National Transport Agency informed today that following negotiations with the competent authorities of Latvia in the context of the high alert level and the serious escalation of the security situation on the territory of Ukraine, Moldovan transport operators were allowed to transit through Latvia without transport permits. 

The derogation is valid in the case of blocked transport units, to bypass the territory of Ukraine and return to the Republic of Moldova.

Yesterday, in the conditions of the serious aggravation of the security situation on the territory of Ukraine, the National Car Transport Agency recommended the transport operators to approach the organization of the races bypassing the territory of Ukraine. In this regard, following negotiations with the competent authorities of several foreign states, two green corridors were identified for the transit of blocked transport units on the territory of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus, in order to return them to the Republic of Moldova.

Thus, carriers can opt for the transit option in the direction of Georgia - Turkey - Bulgaria - Romania. We note that, following negotiations with the competent Georgian authorities, Moldovan transport operators were allowed to transit the territory without authorizations for the transport of goods. At the same time, in accordance with the provisions of the Bilateral Intergovernmental Agreements and the Protocols of the meetings of the Joint Commissions in the field, the transit through the territories of Turkey, Bulgaria and Romania is liberalized.

Transport operators may also use the transit corridor in the direction of Poland - Slovakia - Hungary - Romania. In this context, ANTA noted that Moldovan transport operators were allowed to transit through the territory of Slovakia without authorizations for the carriage of goods by road, and the Slovak control authorities were informed of that derogation.
