Moldova marks 30th anniversary of joining United Nations Organization

Chisinau, 2 March /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova marks the 30th anniversary of its accession to the United Nations Organization (UNO).    

”The new realities in which we live today reconfirm the importance of the values promoted by UNO. Just today, Moldova received a consignment of humanitarian assistance for the refugees from Ukraine, provided by UNO. We thank you! Moldova – for Peace!,’’ Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu said on the occasion of the anniversary, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.  

UNO was set up after the Second World War, in 1945 and is based on the principles laid down in the UN Charter. Presently, the Organization has 193 member states.   

Moldova attaches foremost importance to the UNO’s role in the international cooperation, promotion of democracy and human rights, maintaining peace and international security, economic and social development, observance of the international law.    

The joining of the UNO gave Moldova access to the international forums and possibility to influence the global agenda on a wide range of fields. At the same time, as member state, Moldova should enforce the provisions of the UN Charter, observe and promote the human rights.    

UNO cooperates with the government and other partners from Moldova, such as the civil society, in order to provide the assistance needed for Moldova to ensure the observance of the commitments taken.

The UN work in Moldova is carried out according to the Framework of Partnership UNO – Moldova for Sustainable Development 2018-2022, signed in 2017.

The UNO in Moldova is a key partner, which backs the process of nationalization and implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. At present, over 20 specialized agencies, funds and programmes have offices in Chisinau, among which: UN Development Programme, UN Children’s Fund, UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
