Chisinau, 3 March /MOLDPRES/ - The public authorities in the environmental protection sector – the Environment Agency and the National Agency for Regulation of Nuclear and Radiological Activities today informed that there were no reasons for concern as to the radioactive background in Moldova.
After on 25 February, Ukraine lost its control over the Chernobyl nuclear power station, Moldova monitors the recordings every ten minutes.
Moldova’s Environment Ministry is daily informed by subordinated institutions about the level of the radioactive background, registered at the stations with automatic monitoring. ‘’There is absolutely no reason for concern, as all parameters as to the fluctuations of the gamma mental background are monitored online, verified, analyzed and all decision-makers are informed,’’ the director of the Agency for Regulation of Nuclear and Radiological Activities, Ionel Balan, said.
There are seven stations with manual monitoring in Moldova at the supervision points in Bravicea, Falesti, Soroca, Cornesti, Leova, Comrat, Baltata and five – with automatic monitoring in Balti, Briceni, Chisinau, Stefan Voda and Cahul. The manual monitoring is made twice per day, at 7:00 and 20:00 and the automatic one is made continuously.
According to data presented for 1-3 March, the values of the gamma radiation in Moldova were registered at 0.15-0.22 µSv/h, which means that the level of the radioactive background of the environment is stable. The warning limit is 0.25 µSv/h for Moldova.
