Chisinau, March 4 / MOLDPRES /- A new project to support agricultural activities in rural areas could be started in our country, with the support of Austria. The opportunities of this program were examined by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAIA), Viorel Gherciu, at a meeting with the representatives of the Austrian Embassy and the coordinators of the Our Farm project.

The parties discussed the objectives of the potential project, which would aim to open Moldovan farmers' access to regional and international markets, provide more efficient means of production and train farmers in accounting, environmental legislation and organic soil work.

"Thus, the beneficiaries could be representatives of agricultural communities, families and people with special needs, as well as young people living in rural areas," says MAIA.

At the same time, the project coordinators claim that special attention will be paid to families with a low level of education, in order to expand business opportunities, create optimal conditions for the development of agricultural activities and facilitate access to markets. Equally, support will be provided to smallholder farmers and families facing financial difficulties as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
