These represented the subject of a recently held inter-parliamentary meeting titled, An ambitious future for Europe's women after COVID-19: mental load, gender equality in teleworking and unpaid care work after the pandemic.

The International Women’s Day (called also Women’s Day) is annually marked on 8 March, in order to point out both, the social achievements, the economic policies and conditions of women and the discrimination and violence which are still felt in many parts of the world. The International Women’s Day was adopted under a resolution of the United Nations General Assembly in 1977.

The women’s day was for the first time was marked in New York on 28 February 1909, in the memory of a trade union’s strike of women, which took place in 1908. In August 1910, on the occasion of the International Socialist Congress in Copenhagen, a proposal was made to celebrate the international women’s day, without specifying a certain date. The International Women’s Day was marked for the first time in the next year, on 19 March 1911. Staring from 1913, the women from Russia celebrated the women’s day on the last Sunday of February.

After the October Revolution from 1917, the 8 March day was declared official holiday in Russia and as late as in 1965, this day became day-off. The next stage in the establishment of a day dedicated to women was the proclamation, by the UN, of the International Women’s Year in 1977 and the declaration of the period 1976-1985 as United Nations Decade for Women.

On 8 March, the International Women’s Day is marked in 60 states and was declared day-off in some of them. As a rule, on 8 March, women and girls are given presents, flowers or other gifts.
