Estonia supports Moldova's European integration

Chisinau, 17 March /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova is part of the European family and nobody will be able to stop it on this path. The accession to EU is a difficult process and imposes many reforms; yet, you can rely on Estonia’s assistance and support. President of Estonia Alar Karis made statements to this effect following a meeting with President Maia Sandu.    

„“On 24 February, Russia started an unprovoked war against Ukraine. The military actions destabilized the entire region and the challenges caused by this war put a big pressure on Moldova. We need the support of our friends, in order to overcome them. Moldova firmly condemned the military aggression against Ukraine and called for peace starting from the first hour of the combat actions. Also beginning with the first hours, our country provided humanitarian assistance to the neighbor and friendly country, receiving people who flee the war. Almost 340,000 people crossed the border between Ukraine and Moldova since the beginning of the war; almost 100,000 refugees remain in our country in continuation. We must help these people and we will do this in continuation,’’ Maia Sandu said.

She specified that the war in the neighbour country deeply hit Moldova, with the exports and imports being disturbed. ‘’We need the EU member countries to open their markets for the Moldovan products. Such a gesture will be a clear-cut support for Moldovan producers,’’ the head of state said.   

For his part, President of Estonia Alar Karis reiterated the support of his country for Moldova’s European integration. ‘’Estonia understands quite well the challenges you face. Three weeks ago, when this war started, we directed all efforts to demand the ceasing of the terror. I congratulate you for the fact that you have opened your homes for refugees, you have  made a considerable effort to protect these people. Estonia will donate  100,000 euros and several buses for the refugees; we will also provide a consignment of vaccine against COVID-19. Moldova is a member of the  European family and nobody can stop you on this path. I am proud to  see your determination. This is a difficult process and imposes many reforms; yet, you can count on our every assistance and support,’’ Alar  Karis added.

The 30th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Moldova and Estonia will be marked this year.
