Chisinau, March 21 / MOLDPRES /- As of today, 12:00 local time, a portion of the national airspace will reopen for civil and state aircraft.

The Civil Aviation Authority together with the Ministry of Defense convened the meeting of the Interdepartmental Commission for Airspace Management, during which the possibility of reopening the national airspace in the context of the armed conflict in the neighboring country was examined.

Following a reassessment of the current security situation, members of the Commission have decided to open up a section of the airspace so that air passenger transport can be resumed.

In this regard, starting today, March 21, 2022 at 12:00 (local time), a portion of the national airspace will be opened for use by civil and state aircraft, thus making it possible to resume regular passenger transport. Given that the airspace of Ukraine is closed and flights in the North, South and East directions cannot be performed, all flights will be directed to and from Romania.

The rest of the airspace remains closed, including Class G airspace (uncontrolled airspace, used mainly for recreational flights), with the application for this space, if necessary, of the exceptions provided in p.25 of Instruction No1 of February 24, 2022.

The air operators that operated regular flights at Chisinau International Airport will resume their operational activity as soon as possible.

Moldova's airspace was closed for security reasons on February 24 due to the war in Ukraine.
