Chisinau, March 21 / MOLDPRES /- The war in Ukraine has put us in front of a completely new geopolitical situation. Many things will change and it is clear that the 5 + 2 negotiation process has been affected and the work agenda for the current year is practically canceled. The statement was made in an interview with MOLDPRES by Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian.
It is certain that a 5 + 2 meeting will not be discussed in the near future, as it is obvious that a Bavarian Conference on Transnistrian issues can no longer take place this summer. "It is still premature to talk about the 5 + 2 negotiation format, more precisely about any changes that could occur in it, even if Tiraspol hurried to let us know, through a communiqué issued on March 4 this year that in the negotiation process "It's over," Serebrian said.
He added that the pandemic and the war in Ukraine have brought stagnation in the process of settling the Transnistrian dispute. "The issue of removing all barriers to the free movement of residents on both banks of the Dniester and the evacuation of the infrastructure of illegal checkpoints is constantly addressed in the negotiation process on the Transnistrian settlement. Unfortunately, Tiraspol is politicizing this issue, avoiding compliance with the commitments made in the negotiation process. The activity of the Unified Control Commission also finds multiple incidents related to the installation of mobile border posts and the Transnistrian militia, the illegal detention and blocking of the free movement of citizens, unauthorized movements of military columns. The presence of illegal posts was noted by the OSCE Mission, in particular, between Bender and Varnița. Illegal mobile stations appear at the Bender-2 railway station, but also in many other places. Here, too, we must note with regret the inability of the JCC to intervene to eliminate these posts. Tiraspol's representatives in the Commission are blocking the inclusion of the most important issues on the agenda, not to mention finding sustainable solutions for them ", concluded the Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration.
