Chisinau, March 21 / MOLDPRES /- President Maia Sandu urges citizens to lend a hand and become promoters of afforestation, the presidential press service has reported.
On International Day of Forests, marked today, the head of state sent a message announcing that the authorities are determined to make efforts to make afforestation a priority for all. And that's because the forest means clean air and clear water, rich soil and fewer droughts, quality products and healthy people.
According to Maia Sandu, today, with only 11% of forests out of a 25-30% need, the Republic of Moldova is still far from the proposed goal, but the first steps were already taken last year, when the Working Group for preparation of the National Afforestation Program, which is to be launched by the end of this year.
The head of state recalls that in the autumn of 2021, the National Greening Campaign mobilized thousands of people of all ages and urged citizens to continue this effort. "In each locality there are degraded lands, strips intended for soil or water protection, on which trees and shrubs can be planted. I call on you all to lend a hand and become promoters of afforestation. I know the times are not easy at all. But the crises will pass, and we will be able to leave a green and clean country for future generations ", Maia Sandu said.
