Chisinau, 21 March /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs and European Minister Nicu Popescu, at an invitation by European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, today participated in the EU’s Foreign Affairs Council. At the event, the Moldovan diplomacy head discussed with the foreign affairs ministers of the EU member states Moldova’s European perspective, the situation in the region triggered by the war in Ukraine, including the management of the humanitarian and refugees’ crisis.

According to the Foreign Affairs and European Ministry’s (MAEIE) press service, at the meeting, the officials referred to identifying ways through which the European Union can provide additional and immediate support to Moldova for the management of the flow of refugees through their relocation in European states and providing of financial assistance, in order to ensure worthy conditions to the refugees who remain in Moldova.

„I pointed out the need of a closer cooperation, in order to ensure the economic and energy resilience, taking into account the authorities’ effort to attenuate the economic impact in the wake of the war in our neighbourhood, which directly hit the commercial circuit of Moldova,’’ the Moldovan diplomacy head said.

Nicu Popescu said that Moldova wanted a deeper cooperation with EU, in order to ensure the social and economic stability, improve the national economy and modernize the local communities according to the European standards. At the Foreign Affairs Council, the official stressed the need to increase the non-refundable financial assistance on behalf of the European partners.

„The submission of the application on accession to EU is an expression of our attachment to the European values. Moldova is a European state, with a European history; we speak a European language and have a European identity. The support of the member states for our European perspective will represent a strong message of backing for our irreversible European path, an integration into an area of Freedom, Stability and Peace,’’ Nicu Popescu said.
