Over 1,300 refugees received medical care in Moldovan institutions

Chisinau, March 22 / MOLDPRES /- More than 1,300 refugees received medical care in the country's institutions, and 400 of them were hospitalized for treatment. The announcement was made today by Health Minister Ala Nemerenco at a joint press conference with WHO Regional Director for Europe Hans Kluge.

The official said that the crisis that our country is facing after the start of the war in Ukraine is an unprecedented one that requires great efforts, including from the health system. "To date, 14 refugee mothers have given birth in medical institutions in Moldova, and about 400 refugees, including children, are hospitalized for various treatments. Some patients, including those who needed dialysis and treatment for cancer and transplantation, were transferred to hospitals in Romania. However, most of the refugees refused the transfer, preferring to stay with us. We have asked for the help of international structures, including the WHO, to be able to strengthen the medical system and to be able to cope with the high costs ", said Nemerenco.

The WHO official reiterated support for managing the flow of refugees and praised Moldovan medical staff for the titanic effort during the COVID pandemic but also in the process of consulting and treating refugees.
