CNA detained Cahul district head

Chisinau, 4 April /MOLDPRES/- Cahul district head and eight persons, including employees of the district council, a mayor and economic agents have been detained by CNA officers in more corruption cases.

According to CNA, they are suspected of having damaged the district budget by over 1 million lei, as a result of fraudulent acquisitions.

According to the materials of the criminal cases, the head of the Cahul district council, together with the head of the Construction Department, a subordinate of his, with public procurement officials of the Council, as well as in complicity with the representatives of some economic agents, allegedly organized the fraud of several public tenders. They would have signed contracts in advance for the repair and maintenance of some public objects, favoring the economic agents, which they would have managed from the shadows. At the same time, the officials would have transferred financial means on the accounts of the economic agents, even if the works were not completed.

The mayor of a locality in Cahul is also being investigated for similar acts.

This morning, CNA officers and anti-corruption prosecutors searched the homes and offices of the nine suspects. Procurement contracts and financial transfer invoices were collected on the spot.

Several criminal cases for passive, active corruption and abuse of office were connected in a single procedure, and the nine people were detained for 72 hours.
