Chisinau, 8 April /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova’s Presidency, on the International Romani Day, conveyed a message, thereby invoking the millennium-long history of this ethnic minority, its ancestors who contributed to the emancipation of Romani and fought for their equality of rights and for their chance for a better future, as well as the role played by the Romani community in the social and cultural life of Moldova, the presidential press service has reported.

The message made public at an event organized by the Inter-ethnic Relations Agency, in which the presidential adviser for culture and interethnic relations, Angela Erizanu Brasoveanu, participated, reads that ‘’presently, the Romani are indissoluble part of our society – a living, vibrant community and full of talents, which gave personalities with whom we are everybody proud.’’ Thus, in the last years, the number of Romani children who attend kindergartens and schools, of students belonging to the Romani ethnic group, MPs and directors of agencies of Romani ethnic minority has increased.

„This is the fruit of the learning, of the effort made by these people to overcome prejudices, as well as of the authorities who prove more openness for the integration of the Romani. We want, in continuation, all Romani children to have chance to develop, all Romani girls to have full education and the Romani’s voice be heard at as many levels as possible,’’ reads the message addressed by Moldova’s Presidency.

The message dedicated to the International Romani Day ends with an urge to unity: ‘’We experience times when the unity, generosity and care one for another means a lot.  Proof is also those over 40 days of war, when we have helped together hundreds of thousands of refugees from Ukraine, including belonging to the Romani ethnic minority. I thank all Romani volunteers who got involved in this process. We urge you that we remain united, respect each other and fight for a better life, here, in our country!’’
