Chisinau, 12 April /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita and a delegation made up of German Bundestag lawmakers, led by the head of the CSU (Christian Social Union) group Alexander Dobrindt, today discussed the latest developments as to the regional security and their consequences for Moldova, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

The officials spoke out for the peaceful settlement of the armed conflict in Ukraine, in the wake of which Moldova was hit by unprecedented crises.

„I would like us to meet in conditions when we can speak more about the economic situation and the bilateral relations, and not about the difficulties which we face at present. Yet, I am sure that, with the help of our friends, we can cope with the situation and can strengthen the reforms, so that we remain part of the free world,’’ Natalia Gavrilita said.

In the context, the PM highly appreciated the organization of the donor conference in Berlin, which proved the solidarity of the international community and concrete actions were pointed out, through which Moldova will be backed by the foreign partners.

„That was a crucial meeting for Moldova’s future; we are the second worst hit country by the war after Ukraine. The generation of immediate assistance in the political and financial sectors will help us attenuate the consequences of the war and continue the development process. Despite all difficulties, we are determined to follow the agenda of edifying a modern European state,’’ Natalia Gavrilita said.

The prime minister stressed that Moldova on 11 April had received the European Commission’s questionnaire on the application on accession to EU and its filling in is essential for the advancement in the European integration process. Even if the process of joining EU is long and needs deep transformations, Natalia Gavrilita emphasized that the authorities remained committed in achieving the final goal and relied, in this respect, on the support of the partners, including Germany.

For his part, Alexander Dobrindt said that Germany would further back the Chisinau authorities’ intentions as to the country’s modernization and implementation of the European agenda. ‘’We are happy that we can cooperate having the same understanding of the European values and we are ready to support you in your European integration. You have our respect for the courageous reforms you make to get closer to EU, especially for efforts to strengthen the rule of law state. At the same time, we keep a close eye on what Moldova has been doing in the last weeks since the unleashing of the war and we want to express every admiration for the professionalism you prove,’’ the German MP said.

The sides also referred to the management of the energy crisis in Moldova, the Moldovan-German cooperation in the commercial and economic cooperation, as well as the implementation by Moldova of programmes on technical and financial assistance.
