Moldovan premier discusses with European lawmaker

Chisinau, 12 April /MOLDPRES/ - The perspective of the economic consequences, triggered by the war in Ukraine, as well as its impact on the citizens, especially women and children, today were analyzed at a meeting between Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita and a Spanish European MP, Iratxe Garcia, on an official visit to Moldova. Attending the event were MEP Dan Nica and EU Ambassador to Moldova Janis Mažeiks, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.    

At the meeting, the sides expressed their critical position on the combat actions taking place in Ukraine and the support for the decision on suspending Russia’s capacity of member of the Council of Europe and United Nations Human Rights Council.   

„Moldova keeps, in continuation, its borders and homes opened to receive Ukrainian refugees, even if this war toughly hits our country’s economy. We face a string of chain challenges – humanitarian, energy, economic crisis and in this context, the support of the partners within EU is essential for Moldova,’’ Natalia Gavrilita said.  

At the same time, the PM referred to the actions undertaken by the cabinet to diminish the consequences of the war in Ukraine, noting here the measures of backing and social integration of the refugees in Moldova and ensuring the access to education those over 47,000 Ukrainian children.     

For her part, the Spanish MEP, Iratxe Garcia, reiterated the European Union’s support for the management of the refugees’ crisis and congratulated the authorities of Moldova for the progress made in the EU integration process.   

The officials also discussed the process of implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the gender policies, in the context of the reforms initiated by the government.
