Moldovan foreign affairs minister meets counterpart from Principality of Liechtenstein

Chisinau, 13 April /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu today received Minister of Foreign Affairs, Education and Sport of the Principality of Liechtenstein Dominique Hasler, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) press service has reported.   

The two ministers discussed the security situation in the region, triggered by the war in Ukraine, the refugees’ crisis and the social and economic impact faced by Moldova in the process of managing the humanitarian crisis.

„I thanked for the participation of the Vaduz diplomacy head in the Moldova Support Platform Donor Conference, held in Berlin on 5 April, the Principality’s decision to allocate 100,000 Swiss francs (about 100,000 euros) to back the refugees through the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the commitment of relocation of Ukrainian refugees from Moldova,’’ Deputy PM Nicu Popescu said.   

At the same time, the Moldovan official referred to the bilateral cooperation of the two states and highlighted the work carried out by the Liechtenstein Development Service (LED) branch during 15 years. Minister Nicu Popescu appreciated the positive impact of the foundation for Moldova’s future, as they are meant for the vocational education. Those five projects under implementation, with a budget of 2.8 million euros, are carried out in vocational education institutions from Chisinau and Balti.   

The two diplomacy heads also discussed possibilities of strengthening the bilateral cooperation through boosting the commercial and economic relations and consolidating the legal framework.  

„We established to foster the signing of the Free Trade Agreement with the states of the European Free Trade Association and proposed to speed up the process of negotiation of the Agreement on the avoidance of double taxation between the two countries.  

This is the first visit by a foreign affairs minister from the Principality in the last 11 years and another sign of solidarity of the international community with Moldova in our process of reforms and modernization,’’ Minister Nicu Popescu said.
