Chisinau, 13 April /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today met Prime Minister of Belgium Alexander De Croo, on a working visit to Moldova, the presidential press service has reported.

The officials discussed the consequences of the war in Ukraine for Moldova, the country’s efforts to provide shelter to the refugees and the security in the region. ‘’We need the support of the international partners, in order to overcome the economic uncertainty and the difficulties which we came across because of the war in Ukraine,’’ the head of state stressed.

The discussions’ agenda included also subjects on the Moldovan-Belgian relations, as well as Moldova’s European integration.

„We want to boost the bilateral cooperation between our countries in the fields of justice and combating corruption. Moldova aims to get the status of country candidate for accession to the European Union and we count on Belgium’s support to this end,’’ Maia Sandu said.

According to the president, in the next weeks, the state’s institutions will focus on the questionnaire on accession, delivered by the European Commission, and this represents the first important step on the road which will anchor Moldova in the European value area.
