Chisinau, 13 April /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita and her Belgian counterpart Alexander De Croo at a today’s meeting discussed subjects on the regional security, as well as opportunities of cooperation between Moldova and Belgium for the country’s advancement on the European integration path, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

The Moldovan PM stressed that the new regional context had triggered unprecedented crises in Moldova and the support of foreign partners remained important for attenuating the social and economic impact of the war on Moldova. The prime minister thanked for the humanitarian assistance provided by Belgium, used for the needs of the Ukrainian citizens who came to Moldova. In the context, Natalia Gavrilita said that, besides the management of the refugees’ crisis, the authorities on this period were fighting such phenomena as the misinformation and propaganda, promoting the ban of the war symbols.

„Our efforts are now directed to overcoming the difficulties created by the war; yet, we will continue also the structural and institutional reforms – changes which people wanted. The Moldovans deserve to be part of the free world and we will work to ensure prosperity based on the democratic values, correct justice and rule of law state,’’ the prime minister said.

Also, Natalia Gavrilita referred to the European agenda of Moldova. ‘’We have every determination to deliver concrete results to our citizens and we count on Belgium’s support in the European integration process,’’ the prime minister added.

For his part, Belgian PM Alexander De Croo appreciated the actions of the Moldovan authorities, both the ones aimed at carrying out the European integration and the immediate measures taken in the context of the conflict in Ukraine. ‘’Nobody thought that, in the 21st century, we will have such an unjust and unjustified war at Europe’s borders. In these difficult times, the countries with common values, either they are EU members or not yet, must mutually support. Given that Moldova is carrying out very good and correct reforms, we will continue to back you in what you do,’’ Alexander De Croo said.

The officials also touched upon possibilities of boosting the Moldovan-Belgian dialogue for combating corruption, in the economic and investment sectors.
