Joint Control Commission holds meeting in Bender

19:07 | 05.05.2022 Category: Official

Chisinau, 5 May /MOLDPRES/ - A weekly meeting of the Joint Control Commission was held in Bender today, with the participation of the delegations of Moldova, Russia, Transnistrian region, representatives of Ukraine and OSCE Mission in Moldova, the Reintegration Policies Bureau has reported.

The participants in the meeting resumed the subjects of the agenda approved on 21 April 2022, the consideration of which was interrupted because of the Tiraspol delegation’s attempts to cover the lawless actions of the so-called ‘’border guards’’, unilaterally set in the Security Zone.

In the context of the event from 14 April 2022, when the Moldovan Delegation members, being on the way to the JCC weekly meeting, were abusively blocked and detained at the ‘’border guards’’’ post controlled by Tiraspol, the Chisinau delegation highlighted the provocative character of the actions aimed against the state officials, which proved to have been thoroughly planned by Tiraspol.

In the declaration, Moldova’s Delegation emphasized the Transnistrian representatives’ intention to change the format of the peacekeeping mission at Dniester, through restricting the access to the Security Zone for the members of the diplomatic corps and their absolutely illegal obligation to inform Tiraspol about their trips to the region three days before at the earliest.

Thus, the representatives delegated to JCC on behalf of Ukraine were prevented from coming to the meeting on 28 April 2022, which could not be held for this reason.

Similarly, on 24-26 April 2022, a string of intimidations took place, organized by so-called ‘’border guards,’’ against representatives of the OSCE Mission in Moldova. They were groundlessly banned from moving to the Security Zone, in order to monitor the situation.

The actions described reconfirm the undisguised defiance by Tiraspol of the ceasefire agreement from 21 July 1992, of the JCC’s role as to the control of the situation in the Security Zone.

The more and more frequent attempts by Tiraspol to replace the peacekeeping mechanisms by its own unconstitutional structures were elucidated by Moldova’s Delegation at this meeting too. To rule out such situations in the long run, the Chisinau Delegation formulated pertinent proposals, with the sides taking a break for additional consultations.

The discussions on the up-to-date issues will continue in one week.
