Chisinau, May 11 / MOLDPRES /- Rescuers urge people not to enter lakes, ponds and rivers despite high temperatures outside, as the water temperature is as low as 12 degrees Celsius, and the gap between them could cause health problems and lead to drowning.

According to institution's press release, the rescuers urge the citizens to be very careful about the security of life while being near the water pools in the country. They warn that the difference in temperature can lead to muscle cramps, spasms, and people's swimming can end tragically.

"Special attention should be paid to minors who venture to spend their time near water pools. The urge of IGSU employees towards the people who take care of them, is that they should supervise them and not allow them to play in the water ", the communiqué reads.

Traditionally, at the beginning of the summer season, the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations initiates the Drowning Prevention Campaign, an activity that aims to prevent and avoid accidents and drownings in lakes and rivers in the country. The campaign will be launched by rescuers with the opening of the summer season, and IGSU employees will go to the beaches of the water pools to warn people who are resting about the risks of bathing in unauthorized places.

According to IGSU, there are only 19 water pools in the country equipped with rescue stations, where rescuers can monitor the situation in terms of safety and security, and in total in the Republic of Moldova there are 3600 lakes and ponds that are not recreational, and where bathing is not indicated.
