Director of Apa-Canal-Cahul stock company, private company's manager detained in Moldova

Chisinau, 11 May /MOLDPRES/ - Anticorruption prosecutors, along with  officers of the South Territorial General Department of the National Anticorruption Centre (CNA), today afternoon made searches at the home, job office and vehicle of the Apa-Canal Cahul stock company and at the home and automobile of the manager of a private company.    

According to the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office (PA), a criminal file was opened against them for passive corruption, active corruption and abuse of power, committed by a person holding a public office.    

The rules of evidence show that their criminal activities started in September 2021, when the stock company Apa-Canal Cahul contracted services worth 23,000 lei from a private enterprise for the preparation of the string of acts needed for participation in a tender organized by a public organization and financed by European funds, which regards the carrying out of works of extending the network of aqueduct in the Valeni village, southern Cahul district, amounting to about 1,000,000 lei.

According to cause’s materials, the Apa-Canal Cahul enterprise was the one to win the tender and to ensure the works of construction of the aqueduct segment. Yet, contrary to the contract signed with the public association, through which the object’s sale to other entrepreneurs was banned, the director of the enterprise would have signed a contractor agreement with an economic agent, the manager of which is a close friend of the latter and it would have empowered him to carry out the works, even if it did not have licence for carryout out such a kind of activity.     

During investigations, decision-makers found out that, in order to favour the economic agent, the director of the Apa-Canal Cahul enterprise would have received as reward a tourist package tour for the vacation of his family, paid by the company of the favoured entrepreneur.    

After the bringing of the charge, anticorruption prosecutors are to decide on the opportunity to apply a procedural measure of coercion against the people detained.
