European Commissioner for Home Affairs praises Moldova for way of managing refugees' flow

Chisinau, 12 May /MOLDPRES/ - European Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson praised Moldova for the way the management of the flow of refugees was carried out. The official, along with Interior Minister Ana Revenco paid a visit to the Leuseni border crossing point today.  

The two officials gave a news briefing, after they had inspected the border checkpoint and discussed with officers of the FRONTEX Agency and Border Police ones.

„We are grateful for the assistance in the conclusion of the agreement with the FRONTEX Agency and so policemen from all EU member states, along with border policemen from Moldova are here and make joint team to ensure security at the border with the war,’’ Revenco said.

The interior minister reiterated that Moldova wanted to be part of the European security community and can become a safety belt for the European area.

The European official appreciated the attitude taken by Moldova in the context of the war in Ukraine, as well as the way of management of the refugees’ flow.

„I was quite impressed by the way the situation of migrants was managed. I can say that this is a model of acting. In Chisinau, I discussed the security, border management and the FRONTEX mission,’’ Johansson said.   

In the Moldovan capital, the EU Commissioner for Home Affairs had meetings with Moldova’s top leadership.
