Chisinau, 14 May /MOLDPRES/ - ”We experience quite difficult moments on these days. The war in Ukraine, the barbarian aggression against a sovereign state has brought to the forefront all vulnerabilities which Moldova has. Yet, due to the European friends, our country now has a unique chance to make the decisive step in getting closer to EU and the European integration process should become irreversible.’’

Deputy Parliament Speaker Mihail Popsoi has made statements to this effect at a joint news conference with European MP, chairman of the European Parliament’s Delegation to the European Union – Moldova Parliamentary Association Committee, MEP Siegfried Muresan.

According to the parliament’s communication and public relations department, Mihail Popsoi highlighted that the status of country candidate would not solve Moldova’s problems, but would create a context favourable to the economic development and for the development of justice.

”The goal is to improve the people’s living here, at home, nearing, at the same time, the Moldovan citizens’ legitimate aspiration to return to the great European family,’’ the deputy speaker noted. He also thanked Siegfried Muresan for the consistent and sincere support of Moldova in the European Parliament.

For his part, Siegfried Muresan conveyed a message of gratitude to Moldova’s citizens and authorities for the exemplary support provided to people from Ukraine, a thing appreciated at the level of the entire EU.

”Moldova presently enjoys more reliability at the level of the international partners than ever and this fact allows authorities to get concrete support at the European level for Moldova’s citizens,’’ the MEP said.

Siegfried Muresan informed that a macro-financial assistance worth 150 million euros had been voted in the European Parliament and the first installment would soon come to Chisinau. At the same time, the European Commission proposed also additional budgetary support of 53 million euros.

At the same time, the MP described the European Parliament’s resolution on support for Moldova as the most ambitious document, in which the main care is the improvement of the people’s living standards.

”In that document, we clearly ask the European institutions for the status of state candidate, for Moldova to become a EU member state,’’ the MEP stressed.

Muresan also referred to Moldova’s economic integration into the single European market, as well as to other benefits which, according to him, would increase with the nearing of the accession moment.

In particular, the European MP emphasized that the European lifestyle was one based on inclusion, tolerance, respect for each citizen.

”We want this for Moldova as well,’’ the MEP added.

Mihail Popsoi and Siegfried Muresan are co-chairpersons of the Moldova-European Union Association Committee.
