16:47 | 14.05.2022 Category: Social

Chisinau, 14 May /MOLDPRES/ - The European Town was inaugurated on the Great National Assembly Square (PMAN) from the Moldova n capital today. The European Union Delegation in Moldova, along with the Embassies of the EU member states mark the Europe Day 2022 through a string of cultural and educative events in more regions from Moldova.

Titled Solidarity for Peace, the activities scheduled for May will emphasize the culture and values of the European Union, as well as the assistance provided by EU and its member states, in the spirit of Team Europe, for the benefit of Moldova’s citizens.

The European Town was launched through a news conference held by European Union Ambassador to Moldova Jānis Mažeiks, along with the Ambassadors of the European states. Jānis Mažeiks said that Europe Day this year was marked in a context which had deeply saddened and disturbed us.

”In Ukraine, a brutal and unjustified war kills innocent people. Entire settlements are destroyed by the ferocity of the Russian military forces. Presently, more than ever, the values which stay at the basis of the creation and work of the European Union – unity, solidarity, peace, rule of law state and observance of human rights, especially the fundamental right to life – become indispensable. The war in the neighbour country brings to all of us the personal duty to protect peace. Thus, I want to invite you to receive peace in your homes: the solidarity for peace is the principal message which we want to convey during the festivities planned on the occasion of Europe Day,’’ the EU Ambassador stressed.

In the context, Ambassador of Italy to Moldova Lorenzo Tomassoni said that the solidarity and unity were among our common values and we commit to prove them whenever necessary. ‘’We welcome Moldova’s decision to apply for accession to EU and to strengthen its European integration,’’ the Italian diplomat also said.

The news conference was followed by a show given by the Model-Orchestra and the chamber choir Credo of the Interior Ministry’s General Inspectorate of Carabineers.

More events will be organized to mark Europe Day 2022 in Edinet, Soroca, Stefan Voda, Ungheni, Balti, etc., in cooperation with the European Investment Bank, local authorities and the networks of Euro-clubs and European Information Centres from all over Moldova.
