Green Spaces management suspended following death of child in Alunelul Park

Chisinau, May 16 / MOLDPRES /- The management of the municipal enterprise Green Spaces was suspended today, during the investigation, following the death of the one-year-old girl, hit on Saturday by a branch in Alunelul Park in the capital. At the same time, the Chisinau prosecutor's office has launched a criminal investigation into the case.

During today's operative meeting of the municipal services, Chisinau mayor Ion Ceban said that the internal investigation will take place for three days, and on Wednesday a report will be presented. In this context, the mayor requested that, during this period, the management of Green Spaces be removed from the management process, and the director of the institution be suspended from office.

"We have thousands of trees that need to be cleared urgently, especially due to strong winds. We need the assistance of specialists from the Environment Agency to make an analysis and to intervene promptly. The specialized teams will analyze the gardens of kindergartens, schools and other social institutions, green areas, streets and sidewalks ", said Ceban.

At the same time, the capital's prosecutor's office initiated a criminal investigation into the fact that "non-fulfillment or improper fulfillment by public persons of their duties as a result of a negligent attitude towards them, which caused the death of a person."

Two days ago, a one-year-old girl was hit by a section of tree, torn from its trunk, while the child was with relatives in Alunelul Park in Chisinau. The minor was transported to the intensive care unit of the Municipal Clinical Hospital for Children, but as a result of the injuries she received, she died.

According to the municipality, for this park, the company Green Spaces requested from the Environmental Agency the cleaning and deforestation of 170 trees, but the institution gave its approval only for the cleaning and deforestation of 70 trees. At the same time, the Environment Agency announced that the tree targeted in the event of death is not included in the list of trees proposed for the works.

According to the capital's mayor's office, the Green Spaces company cleaned about 10,000 trees last year, and another five thousand were cleared. Since the beginning of this year, more than three thousand trees have been proposed for clearing, of which 2,800 trees have received work permits. More than 600 trees were proposed for deforestation, for almost 250 of them permits were received for the works.
