19 people received free cochlear implant last year

Chisinau, May 16 / MOLDPRES /- Nineteen hearing-impaired people have benefited from a cochlear implant in 2021, paid for by the Compulsory Health Insurance Fund (AOAM).

According to the National Medical Insurance Company, 14 children and five adults benefited from implants, in this respect being allocated over seven million lei.

The cochlear implant operation is among the most expensive cases financed from MHI funds. The average cost of a treated case, including consumables, last year was about 400 thousand lei / over 20 thousand euros /. Cochlear implant interventions are performed only at two public medical institutions: the Republican Clinical Hospital Timofei Moşneaga and the Mother and Child Institute.

For the current year, within the special program Cochlear implant were contracted 20 cases with a total value of about 10 million lei.
