Almost quarter of fires this year caused by faulty stoves

Chisinau, May 17 / MOLDPRES /- Nearly a quarter of the fires this year were due to faulty stoves and 11 percent due to reckless smoking, according to a study by the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations.

According to IGSU, in the first four months of 2022 in the Republic of Moldova there were 684 fires, of which 508 fires constituting 74% took place in the housing sector, 57 fires (8%) occurred in the means of transport and 17 fires (2%) broke out in industrial buildings.

According to the data collected, 58 people were rescued from the fires, as well as material goods worth over 147 million lei (7407295.43 euros).

At the same time, as a result of the fires produced in the country, 62 people lost their lives and 16 people were injured. In the first four months of this year, there were 19 cases of carbon monoxide poisoning from stoves and boilers, as well as 20 cases of carbon monoxide poisoning from natural gas heaters.

During the same period, the rescuers carried out 14,575 missions, including 8,581 interventions to eliminate the outbreaks, 1,091 search for rescue and 8 SMURD interventions.
