Chisinau, May 17 / MOLDPRES /- About 500 cases of enteroviral infections were registered in Chisinau last week, up by over 100 cases than in the previous week. Head of the General Directorate of Medical and Social Assistance of Chisinau Boris Gilca provided the data.

Gîlca noted that out of the total number of cases, over 220 are acute diarrheal diseases - 80 percent registered among children, about 200 are cases of acute gastro-enterocolitis and another 30 are food-poisoning infections.

"The increase in the number of cases is specific to the post-pandemic period. During the pandemic, there were fewer infections due to increased prophylaxis measures. But now we can see a period of relaxation characterized by non-compliance with the rules of hygiene and prevention, which has led to an increase in the number of cases of enteroviral infections. At the same time, there is an increase in cases of toxiinfections, so we warn parents and food service providers to be careful and to observe prophylactic measures ", said Gîlca.

Enteroviral infections are a group of acute infectious diseases whose viruses are the causative agents. Routes of contamination can be through the air or orally, through water, food or dirty hands. Symptoms of infection include diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, fever, headache, lethargy and apathy. Most often, they affect children up to 6 years old, in the spring-autumn period.
