Chisinau, 17 May /MOLDPRES/- About 6,000 inhabitants of Talmaza village, Stefan Voda district will benefit from an extensive public street lighting system on a 12.2 km-segment in several districts. The project amounts to 78,000 dollars, of which about 48,000 was the investment of the United States Government, through the My Community project.

"I am glad that the light reached the streets in this part of the town. The problem of public lighting was put as a priority and had to be solved, so that women, children and the elderly could feel safe on the streets of the village ", Talmaza mayor Eugen Prutean said.

Scott Hocklander, head of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Moldova praised the cooperation between local authorities and citizens. "We are delighted with the hospitality, the desire, the effort of the people and the local public authorities to preserve their traditions, to improve public services and to highlight the special tourist potential of the town," he said.

The United States Government, through the USAID Agency and the My Community Program, implemented by IREX, supports 92 localities across the country to streamline local government and implement infrastructure projects that improve public services, such as roads and sidewalks, street lighting, public buildings, schools, kindergartens, houses of culture etc.
