Chisinau, 17 May /MOLDPRES/ - The re-packing of the iodated salt, its commercialization and depositing with an inadequate content of iodine might be sanctioned. A draft law to this end was subjected to public discussions today.

The draft law for the amendment of the Contravention Code and the law on the payment for the pollution of the environment were worked out by a group of MPs and provides for the sanctioning of economic agents which sell salt with inadequate concentration iodine.

Thus, decision-makers suggest that the depositing and sale by enterprises of iodated salt with the inadequate concentration of iodine should be sanctioned with fine worth from 2,000 lei (about 100 euros) up to 7,000 lei, imposed to legal entity. At the same time, the re-packing of the iodated salt from bags in packages smaller than 1 kg might be sanctioned with fine worth from 5,000 lei up to 15,000 lei, imposed to legal entity. If the infringement is repeated, the authorization for work will be cancelled.

Statistics shows that the quota of iodated salt in the volume of salt imported by Moldova accounted to 78 per cent in 2005 and presently is only of about 21 per cent.
