Moldovan cabinet ratifies agreement on activities carried out by FRONTEX in Moldova

Chisinau, 18 May /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet of ministers today approved the draft law on the ratification of the Agreement between Moldova and the European Union on operative activities carried out by the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (FRONTEX) in Moldova, signed in Brussels on 17 March 2022.   

According to the government’s communication and protocol department, the ratification of the aforementioned agreement will essentially contribute to the increase in the degree of security and safety of Moldova’s citizens, as well as in the region.   

The agreement’s goal is to create a legal framework related to the joint actions carried out in Moldova by the European Border and Coast Guard Agency and the General Inspectorate of the Border Police of Moldova’s Interior Ministry.  

The agreement will allow more efficiently managing the regional crisis, the increased flow of refugees, developing and strengthening the cooperation relations in the border management sector and ensuring the security jointly with FRONTEX officers, detached to Moldova.   

Due to the intervention by European Commissioner Ylva Johansson, the cooperation agreement between Moldova and Frontex European Agency was signed and enforced in a record time in last mid-March.
