European Parliament President says Moldova has its place in EU

Chisinau, 18 May /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova has its place in EU and the European Parliament is open for supporting Moldova, just as it backs Ukraine and Georgia. European Parliament President Roberta Metsola today made statements to this effect at a joint news conference with President Maia Sandu.  

The Moldovan president thanked the EU partners for the support provided to Moldova, in order to cope with the wave of Ukrainian refugees.  

At the news conference, Maia Sandu referred to the challenges faced by Moldova and the progress made in the process of EU integration. ‘’Moldova is a European country and we want a European future. We started a comprehensive process of reforms and we want to edify a country where the citizens see their future. The accession to EU is the only strategic solution which gives Moldova the chance to remain part of the free world. It is only natural for one to be afraid, when such atrocities are committed in Ukraine. Moldova is concerned, the Baltic Countries are concerned. The war in Ukraine has brought instability and a chance of rebuilding the forces ratio on the continent,’’ the head of state said.    

The European Parliament President said the EU’s legislative body was open for Moldova and that she personally backed Moldova in its aspirations.
