Moldovan diplomacy head meets Austrian counterpart

Chisinau, 20 May /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu has had a meeting with Foreign Affairs Minister of Austria Alexander Schallenberg, on the sidelines of the 132nd Session of the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers, held in Turin, Italy.   

According to the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) press service, the diplomats exchanged opinions on the regional developments and the security risks, in the context of the war unleashed by Russia in Ukraine.   

The heads of the two diplomacies also discussed opportunities of cooperation in terms of Moldova’s advancement on the European integration path, based on criteria of meritocracy, consideration by the European Union of the application on accession, given that Moldova presented the answers to the second part of the European Commission’s questionnaire. At the same time, Deputy PM Nicu Popescu pointed out the government’s commitment to reform the institutions, including the advancement on the dimension of the justice reform.   

„We work in cooperation with our partners to combat the misinformation and enhance the resilience of the civil society and mass media. As for the press freedom index, I emphasized the success of the advancement by 49 positions and Moldova’s ranking 40th,’’ Minister Nicu Popescu said.      

The Moldovan official highlighted the fact that Moldova had many friends, who provide valuable assistance to the country through diverse means. In the context, Minister Nicu Popescu thanked Austria’s commitment at the Berlin conference on supporting Moldova, for the financial and humanitarian assistance provided to Moldova, as well as for the relocation of Ukrainian refugees from Moldova in Austria.
