Moldovan president, JICA leadership consider perspective of Moldovan-Japanese partnership for development

Chisinau, 27 May /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today met a delegation of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), led by its director Akihiko Tanaka. The discussion was focused on the projects carried out with JICA’s support in Moldova, as well as on perspectives of extending the Moldovan-Japanese cooperation, the presidential press service has reported.
The head of state thanked for the generous assistance provided by Japan to Moldova in the last three decades in such key sectors as agriculture, health or environmental protection, noting that the authorities wanted to continue the development projects. President Maia Sandu emphasized the importance of the Japanese assistance provided for the management forestry resources. The president said that she relied on the cooperation with JICA also in the implementation of the programme on Moldova’s re-afforestation, in order to more efficiently respond to the climate challenges and have a resilient agriculture. The head of state also appreciated the humanitarian assistance provided by Japan, in order to help the Ukrainian refugees.
The JICA representatives appreciated the efforts of Moldova’s modernization, made by the authorities, stressing, as priority, the extension of the cooperation for development. Among the new fields of interest, there is the strengthening of the institutional capacities and syllabi, especially as regards the studying of the Japanese language.
