Joint Moldovan-Romanian control likely to allow smoothing of border traffic - customs authorities say

Chisinau, June 7 / MOLDPRES /- The joint control and synchronization of the activity of the Moldovan-Romanian customs posts would allow the reduction of the waiting time at the border. Customs Service director Igor Talmazan made the statement at a press conference, organized in the context of the increased flow that is attested at the customs posts located on the Moldovan-Romanian border.

According to the official, the flow of passengers and trucks has increased three times recently, due to exports, which has caused the formation of queues and increased waiting time at the border. One reason is the war in Ukraine, which led to the blocking of access roads to the neighboring country and the redirection of means of transport to customs points in neighboring countries.

"Tomorrow, we will have a joint meeting with colleagues from Romania where we will further discuss the measures to streamline traffic. It is necessary to synchronize the capacities of the customs posts, the synchronization of the working hours of the employees and their number. However, we believe that the most effective solution would be to apply common control, common customs clearance, so that the truck is stopped only once, as is the case at the Moldovan-Ukrainian border Palanca, which significantly reduces the waiting time. We have been talking about joint control since 2010, we are ready for it and we have all the necessary capabilities. The Romanian side also supports the initiative, a pilot project has been proposed, now it is necessary to synchronize the databases and we hope that the process will be accelerated ", said Igor Talmazan.

Also, in order to reduce the waiting time at the border, the Moldovan customs authorities proposed an exchange of information between customs authorities, the use of a paper-based TIR carnet application, the digitization of customs processes and the development of software for a community transit. At the same time, it was proposed to use a single transit declaration, the formation of corridors for perishable goods and the use of runways intended for the passage of the diplomatic corps.

Another problem stated by the management of the Customs Service would be the infrastructure adjacent to the posts. "There are no parking lots for parked trucks. We are currently looking for temporary parking. The access roads to the stations have only two lanes, so the means of transport have nowhere to park. In some cases, they are directed at the belts of some localities ", Igor Talmazan said.

Also, the authorities said that in summer doctors will be present at the stations to provide qualified help in case of need and anti-heat tents will be installed.
