Moldovan foreign affairs minister has meeting with European Commissioner for Agriculture

Chisinau, 8 June /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu has had a meeting with European Commissioner for Agriculture Janusz Wojciechowski, in the context of his working visit to Brussels, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) press service has reported.     

The officials had discussions on efforts made by the Moldovan authorities, in order to ensure new sales markets for Moldovan farmers hit by the war in Ukraine. In the context, Deputy PM Nicu Popescu referred to Moldova’s initiative on the abolition of the quotas of export for the Moldovan products, which will back producers and will increase the country’s exports to the European Union.   

„I thanked the commissioner for agriculture for the openness of the European institutions to support Moldova and we count on positive decisions for our country in the near future on this subject,’’ Minister Nicu Popescu said. 

At the same time, the sides touched upon Moldova’s European perspective and the importance to get the status of country candidate. The Moldovan diplomacy head stressed that Moldova’s rapprochement with the European family would mean more sectoral cooperation for the benefit of the business environment, producers and citizens of the country.
