Chisinau, 9 June /MOLDPRES/ - The head of the Political Groups from the European Parliament today adopted a joint declaration, thereby asking to give the status of state candidate to Moldova and Ukraine at the European Council, due on 23-24 June.
The declaration passed reads that ‘’the European Union must prove courage, resolution and vision in the present context of a brutal war of aggression against our European neighbor.’’
Romanian MEP Siegfried Muresan has written on a social network that the European Parliament was the principal supporter of the European integration of Ukraine and Moldova. ‘’We, the European Parliament, on 1 March adopted a resolution, thereby giving Ukraine a European perspective. We also adopted on 5 May, by wide majority, a resolution, thereby asking to give Moldova the status of state candidate. Time is ripe for also other European institutions to clearer show their support for the European integration of Ukraine and Moldova, through giving the status of state candidate to the two countries. The European Parliament understood that Moldova is as important for the European Union as Ukraine,’’ the European MP said.
Moldova signed the application on accession to the European Union on 3 March 2022.
