Chisinau, 10 June /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita today participated in the Summit of the South East European Cooperation Process (SEECP), held in Thessaloniki, Greece. The main subjects on the meeting’s agenda were focused on the evolution of the relations between the countries of South East Europe region and the challenges at the world level, triggered by the armed conflict in Ukraine, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

The Moldovan PM said that the war had not only hit the European security architecture, but also had long-term impacts on the economy and other important sectors for each state and, directly, for Moldova. The inflation, disturbed chains of supply and commercial connections, prices’ increase, the energy crisis – all imply considerable efforts, aimed at remedying the problems on the next period. ‘’The list of challenges is long; yet, we everybody need now solutions, which will strengthen our resilience and will give our societies clear hope that the situation will improve,’’ Natalia Gavrilita said.

In the context, the prime minister highlighted the importance to consolidate the cooperation between the states in the SEECP format, noting that the South East European region had become a transit route for alternative energy resources, as well as food products. Also, according to the PM, the SEECP platform provides additional support to the states with European aspirations and agendas of integration.

„The war in Ukraine sped up the goal which we had set some time ago. We ruled to apply for the accession to EU and to transform our European aspirations into real actions. We are looking forward to the European Commission’s Opinion and we want the decisions due to be taken to give Moldova a hope which is necessary and a clear-cut status for my country to join the states of the EU family. At the same time, we firmly commit to continue the reforms, as our priority is to strengthen the rule of law state and combat corruption. We understand that the European integration is the only solution to follow the way of development and stimulation of the economic growth,’’ the prime minister said.

Besides the European agenda of the SEECP member states, the participants discussed also the inter-connection of the transport market, management of the migration flows, as well as the climate vulnerabilities.

The Summit of the South East European Cooperation Process has the goal to boost the good-neighbour relations between those 13 participating countries, consolidate the regional security and back the efforts of its members of integration into the European structures.
