Chisinau, 13 June /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today met Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Kenji Okamura, on a working visit to Chisinau. The interlocutors referred to the main challenges faced by Moldova’s economy in the uncertain regional context, the energy crisis and the prices’ increase, the presidential press service has reported.

The head of state appreciated the support Moldova had benefited from on behalf of IMF during years, as well as the fact that an increase in the financial package for Moldova had been recently accepted, as a response to the new realities triggered by the war in Ukraine. President Maia Sandu noted that the authorities’ effort was presently aimed to back the vulnerable categories of the residents, hit by the prices’ increase, as to improve the conditions for the business. In this respect, the Moldovan authorities rely on the cooperation with IMF in the fiscal sector, including a reform of the field, in order to turn the country’s business environment more attractive.

Kenji Okamura expressed the openness of the International Monetary Fund to further support Moldova in the process of the country’s transformation, carrying out economic reforms and consolidation of the public institutions.
