Chisinau, June 14 / MOLDPRES /- The national authorities held a joint meeting with pig farmers yesterday to discuss biosecurity measures for their animals. The purpose of the meeting was to identify effective solutions to prevent and combat the spread of African swine fever in our country.
"Every farmer is obliged to ensure animal health by implementing the necessary measures to prevent the disease. This is especially necessary in the fodder harvesting campaign, when the risk of spreading the virus is considerable through wild boars and other animals carrying the virus ", according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAIA).
At the same time, if a pig shows signs of African swine fever, the local veterinarian, the official veterinarian, the Territorial Directorate for Food Safety or the mayor of the village will be notified immediately. Sick animals will be isolated urgently.
It was also mentioned the need to coordinate efforts with the structures empowered to fight the disease.
According to the National Agency for Food Safety, the last outbreaks of swine fever registered on the territory of the Republic of Moldova were on May 21-27, in the city of Edinet and in the Dubasari district.
