Chisinau, 14 June /MOLDPRES/ - Anticorruption officers prosecute a veterinary physician from the laboratory diagnosis service of the Balti-based food safety territorial department for abuse of power.

According to the National Anticorruption Centre (CNA), the civil servant would have abusively appropriated hundreds of kilograms of meat, under the pretext that they were collected as samples from laboratory at the issuance of sanitary and veterinary authorizations, which would have caused considerable damages to economic agents.

According to cause’s materials, economic agents from Balti were bringing to the laboratory meat, which was to be sold at city’s markets, in order to be tested and sanitary and veterinary authorizations were released to them. The veterinary physician would have collected as samples larger quantities than the legal sanitary norms envisages and would have taken possession of the surplus of meat. The latter was subsequently sold to confident people from his entourage. Thus, law-enforcers established that the veterinary physician would have daily collected tens of kilograms of meat on the period January 2022 – February 2022.

Today morning, anticorruption officers and prosecutors carried out criminal prosecution actions at the job office, automobile and the home of the suspect. During the searching of the veterinary physician’s home, they found about 15,000 euros, over 15,000 dollars, 7,600 Swiss francs and 3,000 Moldovan lei. The money was kept in a metal safe in the man’s home.

Following the searches, the suspect was detained for 72 hours and escorted to CNA for hearings.
