Drivers systematically violating traffic regulations to be punished more severely

Chisinau, June 15 / MOLDPRES /- Penalties for drivers who systematically violate road traffic regulations will be tightened and penalties for disciplined drivers will be reduced, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

In this regard, the government today approved a number of amendments to the Criminal Code, the Contravention Code, the Law on Road Traffic Safety, the Law on Control and Prevention of Alcohol Abuse, Illicit Drug Use and other Psychotropic Substances, as well as the Law on identity cards in the national passport system.

Following these adjustments, the responsibility of the drivers of the means of transport, the increase of the safety level of the road traffic, the reduction of the number of road accidents and the increase of the safety of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova in traffic and on national roads will be ensured. Thus, additional penalties in the form of penalty points for driving a vehicle which has not been registered in the prescribed manner or which has not undergone a technical inspection will be excluded. The contravention sanction will also be introduced in the form of a warning (option in addition to the fine) for non-compliance with the road marking by the drivers of the means of transport.

At the same time, tougher sanctions will be set for drivers, who frequently and repeatedly violate traffic regulations. In this regard:

- the right to drive means of transport for a period of 30 to 180 days will be suspended for drivers who exceed the speed limit of more than 40 km / h, set for a certain section of road, and in cases where the application of the main contravention sanction conditions the accumulation of 15 penalty points, as offered directly to the ascertaining agent (Police).

- the contravention liability of the owner of the means of transport shall be established, if, on the expiry of the period of 60 working days from receipt of the request of the Police, he refuses or avoids communicating the identity of the person entrusted with driving the vehicle, involved in committing a road traffic offense.

- the registration and periodic technical inspection of the vehicles will not be allowed, if they have a history of violations, and the execution of the contravention sanction applied by the final decision / decision on the contravention case is active.
