Chisinau, 16 June /MOLDPRES/ - The process of evaluation of about one hundred candidates for key positions in the bodies of self-administration of judges and prosecutors from Moldova will start in early next July.

According to the members of the PreVetting Commission, beginning with July 2022, the candidates are obliged to fill in a form of the assets and wealth and personal interests declaration, which will provide detailed information on the financial sources from the last 5 years, and will be invited to fill in a questionnaire on the professional ethics. Besides, the Commission will collect and verify data and will ask for information from private people or public or private legal entities. They include the fiscal authorities, anticorruption institutions, private banks, civil society organizations and investigation journalists.

The Commission’s head, Herman von Hebel, said that the regulation on the organization and work of the Commission and the regulation on assessment had been already elaborated. These regulations will ensure a fair and transparent process for all candidates. To assess the candidates’ integrity, the Commission will analyze whether they infringed the  norms of ethics and professional conduct, were subjected to reasonable suspicions of corruption deeds or violated the obligation of declaring the personal wealth and interests, conflicts of interests, incompatibilities, restrictions or limitings. The Commission will analyze also whether the candidate’s wealth, acquired in the last 15 years, meets the incomes declared.

Following the consideration of the information collected from candidates and other sources, the Commission will invite the candidates to a public hearing, which will be recorded. The Commission will subsequently issue a reasoned decision on the assessment of each candidate.
