Chisinau, June 17 / MOLDPRES /- Parliament today launched the Platform of Women MPs of the 11th legislature. This is a new framework for intra-institutional cooperation and dialogue that will empower women MPs to work together to strengthen and promote women's rights in the country.
The platform will unify members' efforts to promote equity and equal rights for women, prevent and combat violence against women and domestic violence, but also to help promote women's independence and economic empowerment and family-friendly policies through initiative and legislative support.
At the launch event, President Maia Sandu said that the new format of cooperation will be a platform for dialogue on the issues facing society. "We have good results on gender equality at the administrative level. The Presidency, the Government, the Constitutional Court and several ministries are headed by women. I congratulate the teams for promoting gender equality and the high representation of women in management institutions. We are an example to follow for other countries and international institutions. We encourage women to have more confidence in themselves and to exercise their rights in all areas. At the same time, we need viable legal tools to stop domestic violence against women and children and to actively promote their rights, "said Maia Sandu.
"We have an exemplary representation of women in politics, Parliament, Government and town halls. I am convinced that active women bring peace, they are calculated, they always think about society, the family, the future, that's why they always have decisions made for them ", speaker Igor Grosu said.
At the same time, Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița said that women in our country are still facing discrimination. "Statistics show cases of domestic violence, sexual harassment, pay inequality, so we still have a lot of work to do to ensure equality between women and men. We want the full respect of the rights of women in our country. We need to strengthen mechanisms to protect vulnerable women so that the voices of all women can be heard. The government will support all initiatives that promote women, so that we can appreciate their spirit and potential ", Gavrilița said.
The Parliament of the 11th legislature, formed as a result of the snap elections of July 11, 2021, has a record number of women deputies in the history of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova: 40 seats belong to women.
