Chisinau, June 22 / MOLDPRES /- Călărași, Tuzara and Nișcani town halls signed the inter-community cooperation contract yesterday, which provides for the modernization of the water supply service in the three localities.

With the support of the United States Government, through the US Agency for International Development (USAID) Moldova and My Community Program, over three thousand households in Calarasi, Tuzara and Niscani will be equipped with modern digital water meters, which will allow data collection and transmission remotely.

„Currently, the water supply in all three localities is managed by the Municipal Enterprise from Călărași, which has difficulties in collecting exact data from customers. The water meters currently used are obsolete, with a margin of error of 10-15%, which leads to losses of almost 700,000 lei (about 35 thousand euros) per year. Many users do not provide access to operators in their households or do not provide timely data. All these difficulties slow down the development of the enterprise and decrease the efficiency of the management of the drinking water delivery service ”, according to the Regional Development Agency (ADR) Center.

Călărași mayor Ion Olari said that the aim is to eliminate incorrect billing of households and losses, because modern water meters also record the last drop of water consumed.

The project is part of a major initiative to improve water and sewerage infrastructure in the region, which provides for the construction of the Dniester - Chisinau - Straseni - Calarasi aqueduct, financed by the German Development Bank KfW, a project worth 40 million euros, and the reorganization municipal enterprises in Calarasi and Straseni in regional operators, a project worth 1.5 million euros, implemented by ADR Center.
