Chisinau, 22 June /MOLDPRES/ - The National Food Safety Agency (ANSA) has informed that the campaign of foxes’ rabies vaccination, related to the 2022 year, would start on 23 June. This programme is backed by Romania and co-financed by the European Union.

According to the Agency, a provider contracted on this purpose will distribute vaccine enticements to Moldova by air and ANSA employees will do this manually. The distribution of enticements by air is carried out all over Moldova, from the Marculesti Airport.

The enticements are distributed from the airship in accordance with the flight documents prepared to this end, based on pre-established flight lines. The system of navigation and directed distribution via satellite is used for correct enforcement and orientation.

The manual distribution of vaccine enticements will be made by employees of the ANSA territorial subdivisions, as well as the staff of the Moldsilva Forestry Agency and the Society of Hunters and Fishermen from Moldova.

During two weeks after the enticements’ distribution, the free movement of dogs and cats in the concerned area is restricted, as these animals represent competitors for enticement. Also, hunting is not recommended during 14 days after the enticements’ distribution in the regions where the enticements were distributed. The entire programme of vaccination is provided for June.

ANSA warns residents that the vaccine is not meant for immunizing domestic animals; yet, in case of incidental consumption, decision-makers found out that the vaccine was not harmful for dogs and cats. To correctly inform the population, ANSA started an information campaign through placing informative posters about the vaccination programme in public places. Similar campaigns of foxes’ rabies vaccination were carried out in Moldova in the previous years too.
