First stage of agricultural project supported by World Bank completed in Moldova

Chisinau, June 23 / MOLDPRES /- The first stage of the Moldovan Agricultural Competitiveness Project (MAC-P) ended after ten years of activities that have ensured a more competitive presence of Moldovan agricultural products on international markets.

So far, with the support of the MAC-P important investments have been made in the modernization of the national food safety system, the national legislation in the field being harmonized with the norms of the European Union. At the same time, the laboratories for testing plant health and food quality have been strengthened, the network of border inspection posts has been built and important information systems have been developed for the National Agency for Food Safety.

"The success of the MAC-P is commendable. Thanks to the support provided by the World Bank, the country's food security was ensured, laboratories were modernized and the association of agricultural producers was encouraged. The investments made ensure the competitiveness of local products. I hope that we will continue to have a fruitful collaboration and we will be able to attract investments in other segments of agriculture, especially in the livestock and irrigation sector ", Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Viorel Gherciu said.

The first stage of the Project was implemented in 2012-2022 and had a total budget of over $ 62 million. Since the launch of the project and until now, the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the International Development Association have signed three additional financing agreements for the project.
